Nearly 1,500 students complete Learn-to-Swim program at state parks

New York State Parks says nearly 1,500 students took part in free Learn-to-Swim classes this summer at 20 park facilities across the state.

The program offered swim and water safety lessons for all ages and skill levels, with support from trained lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors certified through the American Red Cross.

“This program teaches a vital life skill and empowers kids and families to feel confident in the water,” said Parks Commissioner Pro Tempore Randy Simons. “We’re proud to make public swimming safer and more accessible.”

The program is part of Governor Hochul’s broader NY SWIMS initiative, which also includes transportation grants to help connect students to swim instruction statewide.
