Bills QB Josh Allen won’t play in preseason for first time in career

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen will not take the field in the team’s preseason finale on Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, head coach Sean McDermott confirmed Thursday.

The decision marks the first time in Allen’s career that he will sit out the entire preseason.

McDermott emphasized that Allen’s preparation and experience make preseason snaps unnecessary as the Bills focus on keeping their superstar healthy for the regular season.

“He’s the reigning MVP and I feel like he’s showing to this point that he’s in a good spot,” McDermott said. “He’s always going to want to play. That’s what competitive people want to do. But I have a responsibility to protect him.”

Allen’s next appearance will come in 17 days under the lights on Sunday Night Football when Buffalo opens the 2025 season against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
