A Texas man’s vacant land in Ontario, NY was sold without his knowledge after scammers used a fake ID to impersonate him, according to Wayne Times.
Ron Harder discovered the fraud months after a buyer, Gerber Homes, unknowingly paid $35,000 to the scammer through a wire transfer. The deed was filed with forged documents, and the title is still listed under the new owner.
County officials and investigators say it could take time—and a judge’s ruling—to restore ownership.
