A fraud investigation turned into a foot chase Monday after Ontario County deputies say three people used a stolen identity to buy cars from a Farmington dealership.
Two suspects — Patrick Johnson Jr., 34, and Iselynn Johnson, 36 — were arrested at the scene. A third, 42-year-old Chaz Davis, ran from deputies and has not yet been found.
Deputies responded to the dealership on Route 96 around 2:40 p.m. after reports of possible forgery and grand larceny. Investigators say the three worked together to fraudulently obtain two vehicles using someone else’s identity. Both cars have since been recovered.
Patrick and Iselynn Johnson were charged with second-degree grand larceny and released after arraignment. They’re expected to appear in Farmington Town Court at a later date. Additional charges are likely.
Meanwhile, deputies deployed a K9 unit and additional teams to track Davis, but he remains at large. A warrant for his arrest is being prepared.
