A deadly crash shut down part of Route 5&20 in Hopewell early Wednesday morning after a car slammed into a tree, killing the driver.
Deputies with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office arrived around 7:07 a.m. to find the driver—who was alone in the car—already dead at the scene near 3735 State Route 5 & 20.
The road was closed between Freshour Road and Mumby Road for several hours while authorities investigated. Early findings suggest speed was a factor in the crash, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
Canandaigua Ambulance and the Hopewell Fire Department assisted at the scene. The Ontario County Coroner’s Office is also involved in the ongoing investigation.
