Bath man charged after drugs, paraphernalia found during traffic stop

A Bath man is facing drug and impaired driving charges after police say a traffic stop led to the discovery of suspected narcotics.

Village police said they stopped a vehicle around 12:39 a.m. on Aug. 8 after it ran a red light at Liberty Street and West William Street. The driver, identified as 65-year-old Nathaniel Pittman, and a passenger were suspected of participating in narcotics activity.

A K9 unit alerted to the vehicle, and a probable cause search turned up a burnt crack cocaine pipe, a container with crystal residue resembling methamphetamine, and a small rock of suspected methamphetamine. Police said the items were seized and charges are pending lab results.

Pittman was also suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and was taken into custody for misdemeanor driving while ability impaired by drugs. He was processed and released on an appearance ticket for Bath Village Court. The passenger was released without charges.
