Newark man arrested after crack cocaine investigation

A months-long narcotics investigation has led to the arrest of a Newark man accused of selling and possessing crack cocaine.

Michael R. Jones was arrested on August 5 in connection with an October 2024 investigation, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies executed a search warrant at Jones’ East Union Street residence, recovering 30.48 grams of crack cocaine following controlled drug buys.

Jones is charged with two class B felonies: third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and third-degree criminal possession for having more than half an ounce.

He was taken to the Wayne County Jail and scheduled to appear before a CAP judge that evening. The Newark Police Department assisted in the investigation.
