Tompkins County is facing an $11 million deficit for 2026, with officials warning of a tough budget year ahead due to rising costs and shrinking revenues, according to the Ithaca Journal.
Administrator Korsah Akumfi cited inflation, federal funding cuts, and increased demand for services like health care, public safety, and housing support as key drivers of the shortfall. Budget chair Michael Lane called the financial outlook “sobering” and pledged efforts to minimize tax hikes while preserving essential programs.
The county will explore cuts, efficiency measures, and new revenue options. A draft budget is due in September, with final adoption expected in November.
