New York State Police continued “Operation Hard Hat” along I-86 near Exit 67S, disguising themselves as construction workers to catch reckless drivers, according to WICZ News. The initiative targets dangerous behavior in work zones to protect highway crews.
During the four-hour operation, troopers issued 54 tickets—mostly for speeding and cellphone use. One driver was clocked at 82 mph in a 55 mph zone. Officials say the goal is to remind drivers to slow down when they see orange safety signs.
The DOT emphasized that maintaining safety in work zones is a shared responsibility between motorists and crews.
