Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, now the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, missed 24 of 71 legislative session days this year, according to the Times Union. He was last present in early May and skipped the final six weeks before his primary win.
Despite his absence, Mamdani sponsored 21 bills—only one passed, and it happened while he was away. Meanwhile, Republican David McDonough, 88, did not appear in person all year but participated virtually. He also had one bill passed.
The Assembly allows remote participation for health or personal reasons, but transparency advocates say the system lacks accountability.
