DA Bill Fitzpatrick praised the state’s Extreme Risk Protection Order system, citing its role in removing guns from individuals deemed a threat. Since 2019, nearly 17,000 ERPO applications have been filed, with over 98% granted. Usage surged following the 2022 mass shooting in Buffalo.

Fitzpatrick emphasized that the process includes judicial oversight, due process, and a high burden of proof to protect individual rights.
