Celsius Energy Drink Recall: Some Cans May Contain Vodka, FDA Warns

Celsius Energy Drink Recall

More than 100,000 cans of Celsius energy drinks are being recalled after some were found to contain alcohol due to a packaging mix-up, prompting federal warnings and consumer confusion.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration confirmed the voluntary recall by Celsius Holdings after discovering that certain cans labeled as non-alcoholic energy drinks actually contained alcohol. The affected products were accidentally filled with a version of the company’s new Celsius Sparkling Vodka line, which launched earlier this year in select markets.

What Celsius Products Are Being Recalled?

According to Celsius and federal regulators, the recall includes select 12-ounce cans of Celsius Sparkling Orange and Celsius Sparkling Oasis Vibe. The alcohol-containing cans are visually indistinguishable from the standard versions, making it difficult for consumers to tell the difference.

“We are taking swift and proactive action to remove the mislabeled products from store shelves,” Celsius said in a statement, noting that the mix-up occurred at a third-party co-packing facility in Florida.

Why This Matters

This recall is particularly alarming because Celsius is widely marketed as a health-focused energy drink, often consumed by athletes, teens, and individuals avoiding alcohol. The presence of alcohol in mislabeled products could pose serious health and legal risks, especially for minors, pregnant individuals, and those with alcohol sensitivities or religious restrictions.

FDA and Celsius Response

  • The FDA has not reported any injuries or hospitalizations linked to the recall as of Tuesday.
  • Celsius says it has notified all retailers and distributors involved and is urging customers to check their cans immediately.
  • Affected cans should be returned to the point of purchase for a refund or disposed of safely.

How to Spot the Recalled Cans

While the labels match standard Celsius branding, consumers should look for:

  • Batch code 2234520 and expiration dates between November 2025 and January 2026
  • Packaging sold between May and July 2025

Consumer Reactions and Market Impact

The news has sparked a wave of concern on social media, with many customers calling for stricter labeling and quality control. Celsius Holdings stock was down slightly in early trading Tuesday but appears to be weathering the initial backlash.

The company says it has launched an internal review and will implement new safety checks to prevent future errors.

What To Do If You Bought a Recalled Celsius Can

  • Check the batch code: Found near the bottom rim of the can.
  • Stop consumption immediately if the can matches the affected batch.
  • Contact Celsius customer service or your point of purchase for a refund.
