Social Security Double Payment in August 2025: Who Gets Paid Twice?

Double Social Security Payments in August for SSI recipients

Millions of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive two payments in August 2025 — but don’t get too excited. This double payment is part of a scheduling quirk, not a bonus from the government.

Here’s what you need to know about the August SSI payment schedule, who gets the extra check, and why it doesn’t increase your overall monthly benefits.

Why There Are Two Social Security Payments in August

SSI payments are typically issued on the first of every month. But when the first falls on a weekend or holiday, the Social Security Administration (SSA) pays beneficiaries early.

In September 2025, the first falls on Monday, September 1 — Labor Day. Because the SSA doesn’t issue payments on weekends or federal holidays, September’s SSI check will be sent Friday, August 29 instead.

That means two SSI payments in August — one on Friday, August 1, and the other on Friday, August 29.

⚠️ Important: This is not a bonus payment. It’s simply an advance. There will be no SSI payment in September due to this early disbursement.

August 2025 SSI and Social Security Payment Calendar

Payment TypePayment Date
SSI (for August)Friday, August 1
Social Security (DOB 1–10)Wednesday, August 14
Social Security (DOB 11–20)Wednesday, August 21
Social Security (DOB 21–31)Wednesday, August 28
SSI (for September)Friday, August 29 (advance)

✅ If you’re receiving both SSI and Social Security, you may receive two separate checks — one for each benefit — depending on your payment method and eligibility.

What About Social Security Retirement, SSDI, and Survivor Benefits?

These benefits follow a birthdate-based schedule:

  • If your birthday is on the 1st–10th, you’ll be paid on August 14.
  • If your birthday is on the 11th–20th, your payment arrives August 21.
  • If your birthday is on the 21st–31st, expect your check on August 28.

Unlike SSI, Social Security retirement, SSDI, and survivor benefits are not affected by the early holiday schedule. You will still receive one check per month.

How to Check Your Payment Status

You can verify your payment dates, update your banking info, and track deposits through your My Social Security account.

If your payment doesn’t arrive on time:

  • Wait at least 3 mailing days before reporting a missed payment.
  • Call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 or visit your local SSA office.

Bottom Line

The two SSI payments in August 2025 are part of a standard calendar adjustment, not a boost in benefits. While your bank account may look fuller this month, there will be no SSI check in September, so budget accordingly.

Stay informed and plan ahead. Social Security remains a lifeline for over 71 million Americans — knowing your payment dates and any upcoming changes is key to staying financially secure. If you’re unsure about your benefits or need personalized guidance, visit SSA.gov or call 1-800-772-1213.
