SoftOrbits is a photo editing software development company launched by Eugene Ustinenkov in 2006. Although it started as a small niche business focusing on helping amateur photographers deal with time-consuming editing tasks, SoftOrbits is now a niche-leading company with over 300,000 users and over a million yearly downloads.
Recently the team behind SoftOrbits has introduced a new way to use their software, providing access to web versions of 10 of its most popular downloadable utilities. This has resulted in rapid growth not just in the number of active users, but also in downloads of the desktop versions of the apps. The company representatives believe that diversifying distribution is the only way a modern image editing software developer can appeal to all of its potential users.
“There are several distinct groups of customers that we serve now. Amateur photographers and artists appreciate the tools that enable them to quickly solve a small issue without the need to download it, meaning they can even do it on the go if they have to. This flexibility is a huge benefit that cannot be overlooked. At the same time, marketing teams and influencers prefer a desktop version that can be used regularly from a stationary PC in a working environment, and we are happy that we can appeal to these users as well,” says Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits and AlarmFront.
As Eugene explains, the decision to develop an online version of the tools came up due to the ever-increasing need for highly accessible image-editing tools as well as the growing demand for cloud solutions.
“Being tied to a desktop device is incredibly limiting, especially when mobile usage is reaching new heights. Obviously, if you want to do some manual editing, you will still most likely need a PC for precision and speed, but a huge number of our utilities offer fully automated editing functionalities, so you can get the most out of them even if you cannot currently access your computer. This combined with the fact that online solutions remove any hardware requirements and can be used on any device, making it highly appealing,” says Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits, Candidate of Technical Sciences.
SoftOrbits has always focused on increasing accessibility and convenience for its end users, and that strategy has helped it find its own unique niche in a highly competitive market. As Eugene notes, there is always a strong potential pitch for apps that solve a certain task automatically without requiring users to learn how to operate complex all-encompassing editing tools that currently dominate the market.
“We always said that the market doesn’t provide enough tools that solve individual problems without the need to deal with any learning curves. You can easily find multiple giant tools that are capable of doing everything, but all of them aren’t immediately usable — you will have to check out guides and how-to’s, which is time-consuming and highly unnecessary for most users. We offer a suite of simple and intuitive tools that can easily automate some of the most boring and tedious tasks for our customers, and that is all most of them need,” says Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits with over 10 years of software development experience.
Right now the team behind SoftOrbits is working on increasing convenience for its users by implementing new AI functionalities that can smooth the editing process even further.
“AI’s natural language recognition capabilities paired with prompt-based editing functionality are simply unparalleled, and any image editing software developer should definitely work towards integrating these features into their applications. We see a highly positive response to these new tools we provide, so we will continue working in that direction and come up with new ways to apply the technology,” says Hannes Jansen, writer and editor at SoftOrbits.
