Tour de Keuka returns with 100-mile tribute and free kids’ safety rodeo

Cyclists from across the country will gather in Hammondsport on Saturday, August 2 for the 20th annual Tour de Keuka charity ride, a scenic trek around Keuka Lake that raises funds for United Way of the Southern Tier. This year’s event features a special tribute and a free safety program for children.

The 2025 ride will honor Jenny Rhoads, who co-founded the event with her husband Randy Rhoads. The longest route, a 100-mile challenge, has been renamed in her memory. Jenny passed away in 2017, but her legacy continues through the ride’s ongoing support for families, children, and seniors in Chemung and Steuben counties.

“Jenny and I set out to make a difference,” said Randy Rhoads, “and we were all in from that moment forward.” The couple raised more than $30,000 in the event’s first year alone. Since then, Tour de Keuka has grown into a beloved tradition, now organized by United Way with help from nearly 100 volunteers. Kennedy Valve is the 2025 title sponsor.

In addition to the ride, a free Bike Safety Rodeo for children will begin at 10 a.m. at the Hammondsport Fire Station. The event is sponsored by Corning Credit Union and Pedal for a Purpose. Children will learn bike safety rules, complete a scavenger hunt, and be entered into a prize drawing that includes new bicycles. Participants must bring their own bike and helmet and are asked to donate a hygiene item for United Way’s Back-to-School drive.

Tour de Keuka riders can choose from 45-, 60-, or 100-mile routes, or a virtual option. Registration is $65 through August 1 and $75 on the day of the event. Riders must raise at least $150 and will receive an event T-shirt and finisher gift. Those raising $350 or more will earn an exclusive 2025 cycling jersey. The ride includes breakfast, lunch, rest stops, and support vehicles.
