For the first time in five years, Old-Timers’ Day at Yankee Stadium will feature the return of the traditional alumni baseball game, as the Yankees commemorate the 25th anniversary of their 2000 World Series championship on Saturday, August 9.
Among those scheduled to attend the 77th edition of the event, presented by FreshDirect, are Hall of Fame inductees Mariano Rivera and Joe Torre, along with first-time Old-Timers Roger Clemens, Alfonso Soriano, José Vizcaíno and 2000 ALCS MVP David Justice.
Nine Monument Park inductees will join the festivities, including retired number honorees Rivera (42), Torre (6), Ron Guidry (49), Andy Pettitte (46), Jorge Posada (20), Bernie Williams (51), and Paul O’Neill (21). Other club legends taking the field include five-time All-Star Willie Randolph and 1998 World Series Game 1 hero Tino Martinez.
The celebration will also include current Yankees manager Aaron Boone, along with 2000 team members Clay Bellinger, David Cone, Dwight Gooden, Ramiro Mendoza, Luis Sojo, and Mike Stanton. Also scheduled to appear are Orlando “El Duque” Hernández, 1999 ALCS MVP, and former Yankees like Bucky Dent, Graig Nettles, and Jesse Barfield.
The Yankees will also recognize the widows of three iconic figures in franchise history: Diana Munson (Thurman Munson), Kay Murcer (Bobby Murcer), and Jill Martin (Billy Martin).
Introductions, read by Michael Kay, will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m., with the alumni game to follow. The YES Network will exclusively broadcast the ceremonies and the 2:05 p.m. Yankees game against Houston.
