Cookie Monster to serve as grand marshal for Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

“Sesame Street” favorite Cookie Monster will trade crumbs for horsepower this summer, as he takes on the role of grand marshal at the Brickyard 400 presented by PPG on Sunday, July 27, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The beloved blue Muppet will deliver the ceremonial command for drivers to report to their cars before the green flag drops on one of NASCAR’s premier events. His appearance is part of “Sesame Street’s” Road Trip Across America, a new multi-city tour spreading the show’s longtime message: that “Sesame Street” is for everyone, no matter who you are or where you live.

“Bring the whole family out for a cookie break as we welcome ‘Sesame Street’s’ Cookie Monster to IMS for the Brickyard 400 presented by PPG on July 27,” said INDYCAR and IMS president J. Douglas Boles. “Following Cookie Monster’s command as grand marshal, everyone can enjoy exciting on-track action as the stars of NASCAR take on the iconic 2.5-mile oval.”

The event will mark a reunion for Cookie Monster and NASCAR star Bubba Wallace, who joined the fuzzy icon in a video promoting the cross-country tour. Their message: “Sesame Street” continues to help children grow smarter, stronger and kinder—one stop at a time.

In addition to on-track thrills, fans at the Brickyard will get to participate in the national campaign through social media, sharing photos and stories of how “Sesame Street” has shaped their communities. The tour officially launches with Cookie Monster’s grand marshal debut and will continue to pop up in cities across the U.S. throughout the year.

Children under 15 are admitted free with the purchase of an adult Flex or General Admission ticket. Live coverage of the race begins at 2 p.m. ET on TNT Sports.
