Skaneateles police crack down on e-bike rules

After several near misses involving pedestrians, Skaneateles police are urging residents to follow e-bike and scooter laws. Riders must be at least 16, stay off sidewalks, and avoid roads with speed limits over 30 mph.

Traditional bikes are allowed on sidewalks, except in the downtown district where they must be walked. Helmets are required for riders under 14, and bikes must have bells and lights during low visibility hours.

Police say many e-bike riders appear to be minors and are asking parents to educate their children—warning they could be held responsible for any violations.
