Victor Fire District responds to surprise dissolution proposal in Fishers

The Victor Fire District is raising concerns after learning of a proposed plan to dissolve the neighboring Fishers Fire District—an action they say caught them and many Fishers residents off guard.

In a public statement released July 17, Victor officials said they were not formally notified about the resolution to dissolve the Fishers Fire District, which was passed in June by the Fishers Board of Fire Commissioners. The issue was the subject of a public hearing on July 16.

“Victor Fire District was not directly consulted or formally notified in advance of the resolution,” the statement read, adding that the proposed move could significantly affect regional fire service operations.

While the final decision lies solely with the Fishers Commission, Victor Fire District leaders said they are closely monitoring the situation and communicating with the Town of Victor to assess the potential impact on coverage and public safety. They emphasized that they are not trying to influence the decision, but are “preparing to fulfill our responsibility to public safety should regional service needs arise.”

Victor Fire District officials said they are engaging with key stakeholders and evaluating changes that might be needed if the dissolution proceeds. They reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining operational readiness and supporting both volunteer and career personnel.

“Our priorities remain clear: operational readiness, community safety, and support for our members,” the release stated.
