Varick man charged after domestic incident involving child

A Varick resident was arrested earlier this week following a domestic violence incident that involved a child and violated a court order, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrested 38-year-old Matthew J. Haws around 1 p.m. on July 16 at his home on State Route 336. He faces multiple charges including first-degree criminal contempt, third-degree criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, and aggravated family offense.

Investigators say Haws damaged property and violated an active order of protection, all while a child was present. He was arraigned in Seneca County CAP court following his arrest.
