SUNY launches tour to promote free college plan

SUNY Chancellor John King is hitting the road to promote Gov. Kathy Hochul’s SUNY Reconnect program, which offers free community college this fall to adults aged 25 to 55 entering high-demand fields, according to Spectrum News 1.

The program covers tuition, fees, books, and supplies for careers in areas like nursing, IT, and renewable energy. During a stop at Schenectady County Community College, King highlighted the school’s Air Traffic Control Simulator Lab, one of only two FAA-approved sites nationwide.

King said SUNY Reconnect could change lives by helping working adults gain skills that lead to higher-paying jobs. The state budget funds the initiative, with SUNY contributing an additional $5 million for implementation and equipment.
