Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps hosts sunset paddle tour

Nature lovers are invited to explore Onondaga Lake by water as the Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps leads a two-mile kayaking adventure on Thursday, August 7. The evening paddle begins at 6 p.m. and winds through Nine Mile Creek and the lake’s shoreline to showcase thriving wildlife habitats at sunset.

Birding and habitat specialists from the Montezuma Audubon Center and Parsons will guide the tour, sharing insights on how restored wetlands are helping migratory birds, songbirds, and birds of prey as they pass through the region. Onondaga Lake is recognized as an Important Bird Area for its critical role in supporting these species during their journeys.

Participants can bring their own non-motorized watercraft or rent a solo kayak for the event. Paddle boarders are also welcome. The cost is $25 per person without a boat rental and $35 with a kayak rental, which includes a paddle and life vest. Solo kayak rentals are limited and will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event will be held rain or shine, and all registered participants will receive directions to the canoe and kayak launch on Pumphouse Road in Syracuse.

Online reservations can be made at Audubon’s registration page. For questions, call 315.365.3588 or email [email protected].

The program is sponsored by Honeywell, National Grid, Parsons, and Anchor QEA.
