A nearly three-mile stretch of railway between Bath and Hammondsport will be repaired using $400,000 in new funding, according to WETM. The line, largely unused since the 1990s, will be stabilized and restored for future tourism use.
Half the funding comes from an Appalachian Regional Commission grant, with the remainder from local sources. The Steuben County IDA will oversee upgrades, including erosion control and railbed improvements. Once complete, the line will be leased to a recreational operator.
Congressman Nick Langworthy praised the effort as a smart investment aimed at boosting tourism, creating jobs, and revitalizing local infrastructure.
