Ex-fire chief admits to stealing $100K from Wayne County department

A former fire chief in Wayne County has pleaded guilty to embezzling over $100,000 from his own department. William Storrs, who also served as treasurer for the Marbletown Volunteer Fire Department, admitted to misusing credit cards and bank accounts between 2020 and 2024.

Prosecutors said Storrs used department funds to cover personal expenses, including his wife’s credit card debt and retail purchases. He was removed from his position in July 2024 after the theft was reported to state authorities.

The Wayne County district attorney condemned the betrayal, calling it a misuse of public trust. Storrs will be sentenced on September 3.
