Tompkins County is seeking a consultant to assess the effects of raising the local minimum wage above the state’s $15.50 rate, according to Tompkins Weekly.
The study will explore wage impacts across industries, border economies, cost-of-living differences, and enforcement. Funded through a 2024 resolution, the project aligns with the county’s five-year strategic plan on economic opportunity and quality of life.
With a local living wage estimated near $25 per hour, officials say the study is a critical first step in addressing pay gaps for roughly 23,000 underpaid workers.
