The long-planned SouthWorks development in Ithaca has received a $1 million state grant to help launch its first phase, according to The Ithaca Voice.
The funds will support infrastructure for 100 affordable housing units—part of a larger $588 million project set to redevelop the former Emerson factory site with nearly 1,000 residences and over 800,000 square feet of commercial space.
While the grant won’t fund housing construction directly, it will cover roads, water lines, sewer connections, and stormwater systems. Supporters call it a major step for a transformative project decades in the making.
