First responders rescued two people from a burning boat roughly two miles off the coast of Sodus Point on Saturday after the vessel began taking on water and emitting smoke.
Scanner traffic confirmed that the incident involved a white and maroon boat, which was located before reaching the Sodus Point lighthouse. The individuals onboard deployed flares and were wearing life jackets when fire crews and law enforcement marine units responded.
Sodus Point and North Rose fire and EMS units made contact with the boat, and both occupants were safely transported to the U.S. Coast Guard station. Pultneyville Fire Department was also dispatched to assist, and EMS was staged near the station for precautionary care.
Law enforcement requested a tow for the disabled boat. No injuries were reported at the time of the response.
