Red Creek woman charged after disabled man found hitchhiking

A Red Creek woman was arrested on July 2 after a disabled man under her care was found hitchhiking miles from home.

Deputies arrested Shannon M. Wade, 61, of Main Street, and charged her with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the first degree. The incident began after multiple 911 calls reported a male subject wandering without supervision.

Authorities say the man, whom Wade was responsible for, went missing and made it from Red Creek to the Village of Sodus without her knowledge. It’s further alleged that Wade located him partway through his journey, called 911, but left him on the roadway.

Wade was taken to the Wayne County Jail and held for arraignment in CAP Court.
