Health leaders across New York are sounding alarms over President Trump’s proposed tax and spending cuts, which would slash more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and ACA programs, according to Spectrum News. Critics say the changes—like stricter work requirements and limits on state provider taxes—could destabilize rural health systems.
With nearly 34% of rural adult New Yorkers on Medicaid, experts warn the bill could lead to mass coverage losses, higher premiums, and overburdened hospitals. The CBO estimates up to 12 million Americans may lose insurance by 2034, with 60,000 health care jobs at risk.
Despite $50 billion earmarked for rural facilities in 2026, opponents argue the bill undermines care affordability and threatens already fragile systems statewide.
