Buffalo Bills rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston is being sued for alleged sexual assault and causing emotional distress, as first reported by WKBW on Wednesday morning.
The civil lawsuit, filed Tuesday, names the 21-year-old as a defendant. Rebecca Hendryx, who identified herself in reports, claims Hairston assaulted her in 2021 while he attended the University of Kentucky.
On March 24, she alleges Hairston came to her dorm uninvited. When she declined to hang out and told him she was going to bed, he allegedly entered anyway, forcibly removed her pajama shorts, and assaulted her despite her protests.
According to ESPN, she reported the incident to police within hours and completed a sexual assault exam at a hospital. Hendryx later transferred from Kentucky and is pursuing a jury trial and damages.
Her attorney said she showed great strength coming forward and emphasized that athletic status does not place anyone above the law.
Buffalo selected Hairston 30th overall in April’s draft after he posted six interceptions and 89 tackles in college.
General manager Brandon Beane referenced a prior Title IX matter but said the team’s background checks found no evidence supporting the allegations and called Hairston an exceptional young man.
