Cayuga Lake programs mix science, cruises, and conservation

Discover Cayuga Lake is hosting a packed season of eco-cruises and science-based activities aimed at connecting the public with the lake’s ecosystem, according to Tompkins Weekly. From wildlife tours to hands-on lessons aboard the MV Teal, programs cater to all ages.

The nonprofit offers educational outings, including osprey and sunset cruises, free family programs, and lake monitoring trips. These events not only educate but also help fund school programs, with $125,000 in assistance provided last year. New paddle trips and public discussions aim to shift perceptions of the lake amid ongoing concerns over harmful algal blooms.

Volunteers are needed for several citizen science efforts tracking water quality. As advocacy and education expand, leaders hope these programs foster stewardship and long-term sustainability for Cayuga Lake.
