New York’s private sector saw modest growth in May, adding 7,500 jobs for a 0.1% increase, according to the state Department of Labor. That brings the total to over 8.47 million jobs statewide, matching the national growth rate for the month.
Year-over-year, the state added 88,300 jobs, a 1.1% rise also in line with national figures. Meanwhile, the statewide unemployment rate fell from 4.2% to 4.0%. New York City’s jobless rate dropped to 4.8%, and the rest of the state saw a slight dip to 3.4%.
The numbers are based on federal payroll surveys and reflect continued gradual recovery in New York’s labor market.
