Florida man sentenced to 100 months for prison gift basket scam

A Florida man who ran a fake gift basket company that targeted families of incarcerated individuals has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison.

Robert Rahrle, 35, was sentenced last week to 100 months’ imprisonment and three years of supervised release for wire fraud and tax evasion. Prosecutors said Rahrle operated iCare Gifting Solutions LLC, an online company that claimed to send care packages to prisons but never delivered on its promises.

From 2017 to 2024, Rahrle charged hundreds of customers approximately $50 per basket, collecting millions without sending a single package. He also filed false tax returns and failed to report hundreds of thousands of dollars in income.

Senior U.S. District Judge Glenn T. Suddaby ordered Rahrle to pay a $2 million money judgment and $178,651 in restitution to the IRS. Restitution to individual victims will be determined later.

“Driven by greed, Rahrle operated a years’ long fraud scheme scamming people out of millions of dollars,” said U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III. “For that he will pay a high price.”

Harry T. Chavis, Special Agent in Charge of IRS-Criminal Investigation New York, added, “This sentence sees to it that Mr. Rahrle will spend a lot of time behind bars, and perhaps he’ll learn firsthand the potential value of a legitimate care package business.”

The investigation was led by IRS-CI, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the U.S. Secret Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. Gadarian prosecuted the case.
