Ontario County officials are calling on the public to help block the parole of a man convicted in one of the region’s most haunting child murder cases.
District Attorney James Ritts and Sue Ann Cross, the mother of 8-year-old Staci Ackerman, announced this week that a petition to keep convicted killer Gregory Flint behind bars has drawn more than 9,500 signatures since its launch on June 3. They now hope to push that number past 10,000.
“This petition is about justice, safety, and remembering my little girl whose life was stolen,” Cross said. “I live every day with the pain of losing my daughter. The thought of her killer walking free is unbearable. We need the public’s help to make sure that never happens.”
Flint was convicted of murdering Ackerman in 1986 in Farmington, New York. Though decades have passed, both the family and the wider community remain deeply impacted by the crime.
“Gregory Flint committed an unthinkable act of violence against an innocent child,” Ritts said. “The consequences of that crime did not end with his sentencing — they live on in the pain of a grieving family and a community still seeking peace.”
