Proposed federal budget cuts could strip health coverage from 1.5 million New Yorkers, including thousands in Lansing, by 2034, according to Tompkins Weekly. State Sen. Lea Webb and others are urging the U.S. Senate to reject the plan before the July 4 vote.
The cuts would impact Medicaid, CHIP, rental aid, education, and food programs. In Lansing’s district alone, over 30,000 people could lose Medicaid, with health care costs projected to spike by hundreds per month for some families.
Webb and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins say the plan would damage local hospitals, cost jobs, and threaten health care access statewide.
