Rep. Claudia Tenney of New York has introduced a bipartisan resolution backing Israel’s recent military strikes aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear development, calling the move vital to global security.
Tenney was joined by Rep. Brad Sherman of California and 15 other House members in reaffirming U.S. support for Israel as it targets Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and defends against Iranian aggression.
“For decades, the Islamic Republic of Iran has actively pursued a nuclear weapons program in direct violation of international agreements,” the resolution states. It cites Iran’s obstruction of inspections, expulsion of international monitors, and near weapons-grade uranium enrichment. On June 13, the International Atomic Energy Agency found Iran in breach of its Non-Proliferation Treaty obligations.
“This bipartisan resolution reaffirms the United States’ unwavering support for Israel’s right to self-defense,” said Tenney. “This resolution sends a clear and unified message: we will work together to ensure the Iranian regime is never able to obtain a nuclear weapon.”
The measure has drawn support from organizations including FDD Action, AJC, AIPAC, JINSA, and Democratic Majority for Israel.
Sherman said Israel acted out of necessity. “The only thing more dangerous than this war is an Ayatollah with access to nuclear weapons,” he said. “Israel could not wait until Iran had a stockpile of nuclear weapons ready to be launched.”
