The suit, brought by Nantwi’s estate in U.S. District Court, targets prison officials, several correction officers, and the state corrections commissioner. Nantwi was pronounced dead at Wynn Hospital after suffering injuries while in custody. One officer has pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution and falsifying records, while others await trial or continue plea negotiations.

Nantwi’s father, Patterson, said his son was defenseless and should have been treated with dignity, not brutality.
