A garage fire on Gorham Street drew a multi-agency response Sunday evening as Canandaigua firefighters battled the blaze with limited staffing. One firefighter was injured during the incident but has since been treated and released.

Crews were dispatched at 6:01 p.m. on June 15. At the time, Truck 281—staffed with a captain and one firefighter—was already on a medical call awaiting an ambulance. Engine 211, initially en route to the same medical call, was redirected to the fire and arrived within two minutes of dispatch with two firefighters.
Due to limited on-duty personnel, additional resources were immediately requested from the VA and Cheshire fire departments. Upon arrival, the E211 crew deployed a hand line to protect the nearby home and extinguish the flames inside the detached two-car garage. More critical fireground operations were completed as additional resources arrived.
Mutual aid support was also provided by Farmington Fire Department. Canandaigua Police, Canandaigua EMS, Ontario County Emergency Management, and city code enforcement assisted on scene. Cheshire Fire Department covered two additional calls for Canandaigua during the fire response.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
