A Rochester man was seriously injured Tuesday morning when his semi-truck overturned after colliding with a farm tractor in the Town of Seneca.
Ryan W. Szalay, 43, was driving a 2024 Volvo semi-truck south on County Road 5 when he attempted to pass a farm tractor that was turning left onto Leet Road. Deputies say Szalay’s truck struck the operator’s side of the 2014 Case 290 tractor, causing his vehicle and trailer to overturn.
The crash occurred around 6:45 a.m. near the intersection of County Road 5 and Leet Road. Szalay sustained significant injuries to his left arm and was taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital. The tractor was driven by Elias Ortiz-Diaz, 41, of Stanley and owned by Hanson Farms LLC.
Ontario County deputies issued Szalay a traffic citation for unsafe passing. He is scheduled to appear in Seneca Town Court at a later date. Emergency crews from Stanley, Gorham, Hall, and NYSEG responded to the scene. Marchionda Towing of Penn Yan handled vehicle recovery. The road remained closed for several hours.
