Canisteo has officially adopted its first village and town flag, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune. The winning design by Declan McAneney features the historic Canisteo Living Sign and was selected through a two-round community voting process.

Village Trustee James Dineen launched the flag contest to foster local pride and unity. From a dozen entries, six finalists were chosen before the top two competed in a final vote that ended June 8. McAneney’s design includes “Canisteo, New York, Home of the Living Sign” and seven pine trees symbolizing the landmark.

The flag was unveiled during Canisteo’s annual Crazee Daze festival, marking a new chapter in the community’s identity.
