Apple is offering a new way for iPhone users to meet TSA ID requirements. Beginning this fall, U.S. travelers will be able to upload their passports into Apple Wallet for use at domestic airport security checkpoints.
The digital ID won’t replace physical passports but can serve as an alternative for domestic air travel. This feature comes as the May 7, 2025, federal deadline approaches, requiring all air travelers to present a REAL ID-compliant license or other approved identification. Non-compliant IDs will no longer be accepted at TSA checkpoints.
REAL ID enforcement stems from post-9/11 legislation but has faced repeated delays. Travelers are advised to check state requirements and allow up to three weeks to receive the compliant ID.
