The City of Ithaca has named Adam Potter as its new Superintendent of Public Works, bringing two decades of public sector engineering and leadership to the role.

The Common Council approved Potter’s appointment at its June 4 meeting. He will officially begin his duties on July 7.

Potter holds a master’s degree in engineering from Cornell University and has served in roles with Tompkins County, the College of Southern Maryland, the State of Maine, and most recently, the New York State Office of General Services. As Regional Supervisor for a 17-county area, he worked with state agencies including NYS DOT, DEC, Parks, and the Department of Corrections.

“I am deeply driven by a desire to serve the public and make a broader impact through collaborative, community-centered approaches,” Potter said. “This role with the City allows me to apply my professional experience in a personally meaningful way.”

City Manager Deb Mohlenhoff welcomed the appointment, saying, “Adam’s professional background and wide range of experience will be a great asset to our leadership team.”
