Feds quietly remove sanctuary city list after backlash

The Department of Homeland Security has removed a controversial list naming Ithaca, Tompkins County, and other sanctuary jurisdictions just days after publishing it, according to The Ithaca Voice. The move follows backlash and confusion sparked by the list’s accuracy and legal implications.

The list, published in response to an April executive order from President Trump, aimed to spotlight jurisdictions deemed uncooperative with federal immigration enforcement. But officials said they received no violation notices, and some listed places—like Boise, Idaho—don’t even have sanctuary laws.

Though the list vanished from DHS’s site on June 1, a press release demanding policy changes remains online. Local officials have yet to comment on the removal.
