Unionized staff at the Corning Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare are locked in contract negotiations after their previous deal expired April 30, according to WENY. Represented by 1199SEIU, workers are demanding better wages, improved staffing, and stronger benefits amid growing burnout and understaffing concerns.
The union claims only 60 staff are covering a facility that should have 100, and cited a recent $45 million settlement paid by the center’s owner, Centers Healthcare, over alleged intentional understaffing. Workers have authorized a 10-day strike notice if talks fail.
The union includes aides, nurses, housekeepers, and other support roles. While bargaining resumes Wednesday, members may begin informational picketing during off hours if progress stalls.
