A ribbon cutting at Stewart Park on May 30 marked the debut of a new addition to the park’s large pavilion, designed to enhance operations for the Ithaca Youth Bureau’s summer camp, according to Tompkins Weekly. The added structure provides much-needed storage space and consolidates camp resources into a single building.
The update also frees up room in the nearby Wharton Studio Building, paving the way for a planned Wharton Studio & Cafe. The new space is dedicated to Floyd “Todd” Peterson III, who led the park’s day camp for 30 years. A temporary plaque honors his legacy until a permanent one is installed.
Local leaders and community members gathered for the celebration, which included a preview of the future café area and a historical exhibit on the Wharton building’s evolution.
