Auburn man sentenced to 12 years after drug conviction

An Auburn man was sentenced Wednesday to 12 years in prison after being convicted of drug possession charges stemming from a cocaine-related investigation.

Terrance Hines, 45, was found guilty in April by a jury of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class B felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, a class C felony. Prosecutors said Hines possessed more than one-eighth of an ounce of cocaine with the intent to sell it.

Judge Thomas G. Leone imposed the maximum sentence allowed by law in Cayuga County Court. Hines received a 12-year determinate prison term with three years of post-release supervision for the third-degree charge. He was also sentenced to an eight-year determinate term with three years of supervision on the fourth-degree charge. Both sentences will run concurrently.

The case was prosecuted by Mark Moody, special counsel to Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci.
