Alstom officially opened a $75 million rail car manufacturing plant in Hornell on June 2, positioning the city as a key player in global rail production, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune. The 135,000-square-foot facility, named Plant 4, is expected to create 250 jobs and support major contracts like a $1.8 billion deal with Chicago’s Metra.
The plant was dedicated to late economic leader James Griffin and built with the help of 40 contractors. Local and state officials hailed the project as a milestone for the city’s economy and rail legacy.
The advanced facility strengthens Alstom’s U.S. footprint and reinforces Hornell’s role as a national rail manufacturing hub.
