A two-vehicle crash involving a minivan and a garbage truck sent one driver to the hospital Monday afternoon, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the scene at 560 Atlantic Avenue in the Town of Walworth shortly before 3:00 p.m. on June 2. Witnesses said the minivan attempted to pass the garbage truck as it was making a left turn into a parking lot.
The driver of the minivan, Gertrud Vandermolen of Macedon, was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extracted by fire personnel. She was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The garbage truck driver, Ronald Ryan of Rochester, was not injured.
Emergency crews closed the road for several hours while tow trucks removed the vehicles from a ditch. Agencies assisting at the scene included the Lincoln, West Walworth, and Walworth fire departments, Western Wayne EMS, Ontario EMS, and the NYSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.
