The New York Mets (38-22) stayed hot with their fourth straight win, edging the Dodgers (36-24) 4-3 in 10 innings to open their four-game set in Los Angeles.
Francisco Lindor set the tone right away, launching his 14th home run of the season to lead off the game. It was his second leadoff homer in as many days and puts him just one shy of tying the Mets’ single-season record. Lindor’s early blast held up for a while as Paul Blackburn delivered a stellar season debut, tossing five shutout innings and silencing the Dodgers’ powerful lineup.
Brandon Nimmo doubled home, Jeff McNeil, in the fifth to extend the lead, though a ground-rule bounce kept the Mets from plating a third run. Juan Soto was intentionally walked to load the bases, but Pete Alonso flew out to end the threat.
Shohei Ohtani cut the lead in half with a homer in the seventh and tied the game in the ninth with a sacrifice fly off Edwin Díaz, handing the closer his first blown save of the season.
But, the Mets responded quickly in extras. Francisco Alvarez doubled home the go-ahead run and Lindor added an RBI single to make it 4-2. The Dodgers got one back in the 10th, but José Buttó shut the door, snagging a hard comebacker to strand the tying run and seal the win.
Game 2 of the series is set for Tuesday at 10:10 p.m., with Tylor Megill on the bump for New York opposite Clayton Kershaw.
