The village of Moravia has bonded an additional $15.5 million for its wastewater treatment plant renovation, bringing the total to $25.5 million, according to The Citizen. The project’s estimated cost has surged from $12 million to $23.2 million since 2020.
Despite the increase, Moravia will only pay $5.8 million, thanks to a zero-interest loan and major contributions from the state and federal agencies. Most of the water treated comes from the Cayuga Correctional Facility, which will cover over $14 million of the cost.
Upgrades include new equipment and systems aimed at protecting Owasco Lake from nutrient pollution. Construction is on track for completion by November 2026.
